The key to a healthy spiritual life

I’ve found so much healing in my life since I started a consistent spiritual practice. I’ve found health and wholeness on a level I haven't experienced in all of my adult life. I have come to the conclusion that it is mainly because I show up daily. The key to a healthy spiritual life is showing up and doing the work, consistently. It doesn’t have to be complicated or too time consuming. For me I put aside 20 minutes to a half hour each morning for devotion, meditation, gratitude, and listening. I devote a lot of time to my spirituality. I realize I am obsessed with spirituality, it’s who I am. I do not expect this from everyone.

I think everyone can benefit from even just a few moments every day or even every other, possibly even weekly, whatever you can manage, as long as you are consistent. Consistently checking in with yourself, your deities and spirit allies is a great first step. Take a moment to slow down, maybe take a few deep breaths, and if that is all you can manage in a day, it is a good start. If you have an alter, take a few minutes to say the names of your deities and spirit allies, express gratitude, light a candle, leave an offering, whatever is in your heart to do, but do it consistently. If you do, I really believe your life will improve. At least your outlook on life will improve, even if difficult and cruddy circumstances remain.

I believe the more we give, the more we receive. The more time and energy we give to our spirit and it’s allies the more we receive in good fortune and healthy mindset. A daily practice is best, but if you are just starting out or coming back from one of many of life's distractions, you can start small. If you only have time to take a few breaths, start there and try to grow your practice from there.

Take just a moment to look within. Take a moment to be grateful. Take a moment to listen. This could all happen in just a few short seconds, maybe before you get out of bed, or while you are in the bathroom, whenever and where ever you can. Start here, be consistent, and if you miss a day don’t beat yourself up, just try again another day. When you get this down, then add another step, or transform your practice in some way, maybe give a little bit more time and energy. Do just a bit more, then get consistent with that, and do more. Grow like a tree, grow and branch out with your practice and see your life and outlook improve. This is the key to developing a healthy spiritual life.
